Herbal Tea Blend: Peaceful Sleep

Herbal Tea Blend: Peaceful Sleep

What is your bedtime medicine that will bring you into deeper and more peaceful sleep? Meditation, stretching, yoga, reading books, etc.—there are different beautiful and effective ways to soften our body and mind, calm our nervous system, and shift our switch to more grounding, nurturing and balanced self-care time.

One of the rituals we have around bedtime is listening to the music of Tibetan singing bowls, which has so many times put us eventually into sleep. A particular album of these sounds that we love so much and that we never get tired of is “Singing Bowls,” by Xumantra. The way how the bowls resonate in time and space in a timeless manner is deeply grounding and relaxing, which takes us into the journey of vibration and resonance.

But sometimes, there are days that we cannot sleep as deeply as we wish. At such times, this tea does the wonderful magic to me. When I drink a small cup of this tea, soon enough, I start to feel the tension in my mind and body loosening and become beautifully tired. The power of nature is amazing.

I am blending the following herbs for this tea:

  • Calendula
  • Lavender
  • Lemon Balm
  • Marshmallow Root
  • Passion Flower
  • Skullcap
  • Valerian Root

For this tea, I also combine everything in the same amount.

Passion flower and valerian root are the classic combination for a sleeping aid. Skullcap is another herb that is often used for insomnia. All three herbs work for the nervous system to calm down and soothe stress and anxiety. Valerian root is not a tasty herb which is rather used for making tinctures. But blending with all other herbs, its bitter taste is not much noticeable. Other powerful calming herbs in this are lemon balm and lavender. Lavender will also add a beautiful aroma and color into this blend. Another herb that adds beautiful color here is the calendula. This herb strengthens our immune system and also supports our digestion. One of the important factors for a deep night’s sleep is our digestive health. As nighttime is the time when we absorb all the nutrients we received from the food and transform them to build our body, as well as allowing our digestive systems to rest and replenish themselves, the state of balance and health of our digestive system influences the quality of our rest deeply. For this purpose, calendula soothes the digestive tract and allows it to replenish. Another great helper is the marshmallow root, which heals and replenishes the lining of our digestive organs.

I hope you will enjoy this tea. Check out my another tea “Relax and Blossom” too.
